So, when we moved in here, there was one baby on this end of the street, and she was a beautiful healthy little specimen of a miniature human... or "cute parasite" as my sister likes to refer to them. Anyway, little did we know that by moving in here, we would become one of three pregnant couples at this end of the street. There are now four babies on the street all born within 12 months of each other (actually, I think the official span is 8 months).
The first of the three expected babies went a week over, and they attempted to induce, didn't work, they tried again a week later, still didn't work, in the end, Caylee finally arrived nearly a month late (and yes, it was by induction... C-section, actually). She weighed in just fine, but she has a very oddly shaped head, and to be honest, my baby, who is two months younger seems to be much more alert and appears to be somewhat more interested in the things going on around her.
The second baby, our Rebecca, arrived about two months after Caylee, and almost two weeks late, weighed in at much less than they wanted a two week late baby to weigh, and was much shorter than they wanted as well. Now, she's perfectly healthy, but she did have a "low" birth weight. Oh, and she was induced because the waters broke.
The third baby, Danielle, was another two week late baby, and she only weighed 4.5lbs, which is what Rebecca quite likely could have weighed had we not started packing on the protein so she would gain some good weight at the end there. Danielle is a very cute, but small two month old now... though she's almost the same size as Rebecca, but like Rebecca, people ask if she is/was a premie regularly. And yet again, she was induced.
Isn't it a little odd that three out of four babies born within a six month span of each other would be late, all three require induction, and two of those three late babies be small for gestational age? I'm starting to wonder if I should be concerned about our water or something... :-S

Happenings... or lack thereof...
Okay, I think we have *possibly* figured out Rebecca's sleeping problem. I think she is a very heavy wetter at night, and because she wets so much through the night her clothing ends up wet after about 5-6 hours, and she's cold and uncomfortable. SO, we're going to get some bamboo doublers, and see if they make any difference at all! They're like $5 a piece, which isn't too bad since we probably only need to order four or so to make it through the 2-3 days before we wash diapers again. Anyway, bamboo is supposed to be extremely absorbent, and it is supposed to wick wetness away, so I figure it's a good possibility that it may fix our lack of sleep to at least a point. The worst that happens is we spend a bit of money and not have it work at all, but it is my suspicion that since I tried changing her diaper at 4:30 and then she didn't wake again until 8:00 this morning, we may just need to give her a dry diaper halfway through the night, or find a way to keep her drier at night... hence the bamboo. Hmm... I wonder if the fabric store would sell bamboo terry or something like that...
Hayley, you suggested that perhaps she is teething, and I would go for that idea, if she were fussing through the day as well as not sleeping, but she is rather happy all day lately... today being an exception, LOL... we're NOT having a good day, and I'm not sure why. I think maybe she's got an upset tummy, because she's been spitting up a lot since last night. Anyway, she's normally only fussy for the second half of the night most times (at which point we spend more time awake than asleep).
My mum found the Whisper pant from Bummies, I believe it is, and it looks so similar to what we are using, so we'll probably be getting those. I am really starting to like the looks of the Motherease original one-size system, though I like what we are using right now as well. The only thing is, I don't think my baby is going to toilet train before she outgrows the diapers we have for her, and so I need to find some diapers for her to go into, otherwise we'll be back to flat diapering (not that that is a problem, as I am becoming rather adept at doing that... Justin just isn't as good at using them!). Perhaps we'll look at it for the next one... maybe. The more I use the fitted diapers the more I think the flats are more convenient. Perhaps I'll just see if I can track down an airflow cover somewhere that I can either borrow or have, and test those out and see if I like them on Rebecca. This is the one part of cloth diapers that I don't like!!
We have been having cool weather lately, after those nice warm days a couple of weeks back, but we have officially started the season of necessary lawn cutting! Justin cut the lawn for the first time this past weekend. Well, the front lawn, anyway. The back lawn needs a little work before we cut it. (Mainly picking up branches and such from the wind blowing things down). Now, the cool weather has not stopped the robins from starting their nests. We got up one morning, only to discover that a robin was attempting to build a nest on our lamp over the back door. Well, that wasn't working so well, so then it must have decided that our mail box looked to be a better candidate. That failed when we discovered the beginnings of the nest and got rid of it. However, Justin had some sympathy for it, and asked me about how big a space a robin needs to build a nest, and he mounted a ledge under the covering of our front porch, so now we have a robin's nest there. But, that's not all. Not only do we have a nest there, but I noticed a couple of robins coming and going a lot in our back yard, and sure enough, there is a second nest on our property. At least these birds were a little more intelligent, and they built theirs in the willow tree. But, those two nests along with our finches inside is going to create a VERY noisy yard and house!
I got our back entry tidied up quite a bit today, as well as the bathroom and cleaned the bathroom. The livingroom and dining room are my cleaning tasks for tomorrow (livingroom will be easy, diningroom will be more of a task, as I still haven't got everything organized in there!). I'm trying to devise a system of keeping track of the things that need to get done on a given day, but haven't succeeded yet. I'm currently thinking that if I put everything on index cards, and get a file box and put days of the week, numbers of the month, names of the months, etc I may actually keep it figured out, and it would be tidy and easy to keep. I don't know though. Hmm... anyone have ideas on that one? I like to make things into little jobs that one can do in 5-10 minute stints at the moment, because that's often all the time I have at any given time with Rebecca, though she is becoming much easier to occupy (and she is starting to love riding on my back in the mei tai while I work!).
And, I have some pictures, but haven't the time at the moment to get them up. I need to get Rebecca ready to go to the church for choir practise! I'll try to get them up this week, though it seems that any time I say something like that I never get a chance to do whatever it was until the following week or even later. But, I am going to try!

AAAACK! Calling Cloth Diaperers!!
Wellll... we've got a problem. I went to order the next size of the covers we've been *really* happy with, and discovered they are no longer carried in the location that we ordered them from last time. SO... now I have to either find their equivalent elsewhere (if anyone knows where to get nylon pull-on covers, PLEASE tell me!!!), or we have to select new covers for the next sizes. *sigh* And I liked the covers we're using, too!
SO... what do I want in a cover?? here's my list:
1) Doesn't leak the poop. This is my NUMBER ONE (ie, most important) REQUIREMENT. My baby apparently has really skinny legs, because we are nearing the end of the size of cover she's in, and I had to stitch the legs so they were tight enough to not have gaps. There is still one stitch in each leg hole, even though we are near the end of these covers. So, I need a cover that works for skinny-legged babies.
2) Really easy to use, so there are no learning curves for me... OR for Justin. I'd prefer to avoid velcro, if possible, because I often forget to attach the sticky tabs to their soft counterparts when washing, and Justin pretty well ALWAYS forgets. Please only recommend things that do NOT involve velcros. This was a big benefit to the nylon pants, because they were easily used, and easily removed, with no need to learn to do anything, except to be sure that the cover was covering the whole diaper (yeah... that was an initial oops, LOL).
3) We need VERY cost effective. We paid $15 for three, so I would prefer to not go beyond that much if at all possible. We like to function with six (actually, there are days I think we need ten, hehe), but if we absolutely have to we can make do with fewer...
And... if I have to knit soakers... somebody please tell me how in the world they work (they seem to be rather thin...), if they really do work, and how to care for them (ie, washing and felting and all that)!

A Pillow to Sleep On
Rebecca normally ends up in our bed by the middle of the night, though she is now starting out in her bassinet. That will be subject to change as soon as she starts crawling, as I don't want her falling out of her bassinet...
Anyway, last night Rebecca had a very rough night. We had a lot of difficulty getting her to go down. She would go down for like 15 minutes and then we would hear a sort of screeching crying noise, and she'd be wide awake and crying without any apparent reason again. This happened from about 8:30 until 11:30 when she finally went to sleep! (Yay!) So, then after a couple of wakings through the night, she woke around 6:30 or so, had a drink, and was mostly asleep again, so I laid her down, and she spent some time cooing to herself (or me??) and looking around. I put her on her tummy to sleep, so she actually is starting to have some mobility in bed, and since I didn't feel like getting her to go down in her bassinet at that point in time, she was just beside me on our bed. SO... after about 10 minutes of cooing to whoever it was she was cooing to, she laid her head down. I hadn't realized where though! She had a good 18" of space to herself to sleep in, and when Justin and I got up an hour later, we discovered she had twisted her body around until her feet were against the wall, and her head was up on my pillow, and then she crashed again! Apparently she likes my pillow...
And, I thought of something I failed to mention in my last post: Rebecca is now rolling over! She has been since last Sunday, just a few days before her "4-month birthday". She doesn't do it often, generally only if she is *really* tired of being on her tummy, but she's doing it! She's also starting to try getting herself onto her hands and knees, so we figure we'll have a crawler in the next couple of months... maybe. Unless she takes after me and gets *really* good at sitting, and just bumps across the floors. In which case, I'm going to have to reinforce all the seats of her clothing!
As of last Wednesday, Rebecca is weighing approximately 11lbs give or take a few oz, I didn't measure her length though. Someone had told me they thought maybe I was just stretching the 0-3month sized clothing out, and she actually would fit the 3-6month size, so I laid her on the floor last week (on Thursday, maybe?) to see if I was just trying to hold on to my little baby for too long or not, and sure enough... I was right. She is way too small for the 3-6month sized stuff still. I tried three different brands, and every one of them was huge on her! So, it's not even just those brands that run large that are too big for her. All the 3-6month sized stuff we have makes her look like she's swimming again, much like the 0-3month stuff did when she was first born! So, at her rate of growth, we are anticipating her outgrowing the 0-3month stuff at about 6 months of age. It's making it really hard to decide exactly what sort of clothing to shop for for when she is 12 months though, because for all we know, she will be just entering the 9-12 size, or she might be just entering the 6-9month size... or she might hit a really quick growth spurt thing, and be in the 12-18 month stuff. Who can say?? It would sure be nice to be able to hit the sales right now though, so we would have the right sized clothing. Oh well.
We are in the process of looking for a small mixed breed puppy right now. We'll be going to meet one this evening, in fact. He is a Springer Spaniel/Beagle mix, so we're not sure if he is "small enough" or not. He's kinda cute looking though, so perhaps we'll bring him home with us! Cinders will be heading to the SPCA shortly, where they will be putting her down (thank goodness we finally found a place to take her...), because they don't keep animals with medical needs due to the fact that they are nearly impossible to rehome. Yeah... we knew that-- we've been trying for three weeks to find her a home! We've had her on Craig's List, Freecycle, Justin's internal work bulletin board, and have asked every person we know who might potentially want a dog and be able to take on her needs, and no one wants her. :-( Anyway, we've still got her, but we'll be taking her to the SPCA shortly. I'm having a little difficulty parting with my "first baby". :-)
And, Justin put the nest back in with our birdies. They started trying to copy their outdoor relatives, in building a nest, so he had sympathy for them and decided they needed to be able to nest again. So, they now have a very purple nest (they were given dark purple yarn as their nesting material), so we're just awaiting the arrival of some little white eggs, and then we may have some baby birds on the way. :-) We have a person willing to take any and all baby finches off our hands (they apparently want a small flock??) so we can allow our birds to raise as many chicks as often as we (and the birds) like.

No. Sleep.
It's catching up with me! My baby has stopped sleeping again! (ARGH!)
Last night, she took a nap at an entirely inappropriate time (5pm) she did it again this evening. She'll be up until probably 8:30 or 9, at which point she'll want her usual bath and bed routine. But then, she'll probably wake up at 4:30 thinking it's time to get up for the day. I seriously wish this kid would pick ONE time zone to live in! I was reading that though the start of solid foods and the sleeping through the night seem to coincide with one another, it's actually just the child's maturity and ability to soothe themselves back to sleep that will create a "sleep through the night" child, rather than their hunger levels. So... I guess I have a very needy baby, LOL. She ALWAYS wants to eat when she wakes though. It's not like she's waking and sucking for comfort, it's just an actual "give me food" thing. Within 15 minutes she's out for at least another few hours. At least that's better than her 30-45 minute feedings of the day time! Anyway, since she decided to wake soooo early this morning, I thought perhaps she would take a really good nap today. No such luck. She was very restless during the two hours that she spent in her bassinet. So much for Mummy getting a nap, LOL.
I've finished the shawl I was working on for the prayer shawl ministry at our church. It looks so pretty! I knitted little butterflies into it. I'll be taking it with me on Tuesday, and now I'm working on a whole pile of other things (blankets, sweaters, dresses, pants, tops, and a few embroidery things as well). I really want to get them all done!
Justin and I are probably going to watch a movie called Mutzmag (I think) this evening, if I can convince him he's interested. It looked... unique, shall we say? It's a folk tale from the Brothers Grimm about the Appalachians, so I thought perhaps since Justin really likes the Appalacian people he might like the story.
We are STILL trying to find a place to take Cinders. She needs surgery, we can't afford it, but in this day and age of "no kill" shelters, there's not much else we can do but to allow the sore to become highly infected again, to the point of a vet being willing to put her down, as we cannot find her a home, and no one will take her as of yet. It's quite sad really, and we don't want her to suffer, but there's nothing else we can do for her. Perhaps something will turn up over the weekend. We can always hope at least! Or, maybe God will choose to heal her entire body. Now, wouldn't that be a miracle? I think we've actually got her on one of the lowest doses of viokase she's been on in ages. Like... not much more than a quarter of a quarter tsp. of the stuff at each meal! She arrived here on nearly three quarter tsp.'s! We're praying that God will provide us a home for her, the means to help her, or her complete healing, and just waiting to see what happens, as we have really done our best at this point to find someone who might take her on. Last resort is to find a shelter that is not "no-kill", and take her there. Perhaps they would do away with her if they also cannot find someone for her...
I made a particularly boring looking meal this evening-- creamed tuna on rice. I didn't even make a vegetable. I'm so bad, LOL. I just felt like having something of a "comfort food". Strange that I consider it such, seeing as I didn't like it many times when we had it growing up, but now that I do all the cooking, sometimes things like that just seem... important.
And, while I'm sure there is much more to be said, my little one is crying (she awoke from that 5:00 nap), so I need to be off again.

And, while I'm sure there is much more to be said, my little one is crying (she awoke from that 5:00 nap), so I need to be off again.

Very Stark Contrast to Last Monday
We have been enjoying our spring weather for the past few days! Flowers are blooming, the weather has been sunny and around 75 degrees... basically, very pleasant! Today it's not sunny, and not quite that warm, but it's supposed to go up again tomorrow... then it's supposed to go up and down the rest of the week. I feel like we are the yo-yo on the end of the (weather) string!
I took a whole bunch of pictures of Rebecca outside yesterday afternoon (85 to be exact) and I have decided to display 16, lol. Be glad I finally settled on that small a number. Most of them are ones I wish I could show, since they're just very cute. I decided that perhaps it's just the mother's eye that makes them so wonderful to look at though, so forced myself to narrow the selection drastically! Anyway, I also took some "not Rebecca" pictures of flowers and an oak leaf that happens to be hanging out in our garden at the moment.
This is a pansy that I grew from seed last year... the first flower finally decided to come out yesterday, LOL. I can't believe that it really took nearly 12 months for the thing to bloom!
One of the daffodils my mum planted for me! It hasn't actually bloomed yet, but it will shortly, I would say! perhaps tomorrow??
Said oak leaf in our garden. I just thought it looked kind of neat. :-)
And now... the pictures of Rebecca. I really couldn't make up my mind which ones of these to post! Isn't the sleeveless shirt and shorts on the green grass amazing after the snowy pictures of last week?? Seriously, she's actually laying in the exact spot her sled was sitting last week in the pictures, just facing a different direction!!
With this lovely weather, has come a very, very hot church sanctuary, which Rebecca was not too pleased about! She got very agitated in church on Sunday morning, and only after realizing she was probably swealtering, and therefore stripping her down to her onesie in church did she settle down again. However, we also need to figure out how to teach her to be quieter in church, particularly during the sermon. I am pretty sure she is getting noisy at that time because everyone else is being quiet, so if she makes noises then, EVERYONE responds! I think my social butterfly likes the interaction it causes. How, though, do you get 20 people at the front to not respond with so much as a chuckle?? Yeah... I don't think that's happening any time too soon. So, I guess I'll just have to think on it. Of course, it would also help if it wasn't going to cause a huge fuss if I was to give her a little flick whenever she got noisy... but I have a feeling no one would like me doing that to a 4 month old!! Oh well.

Now that my phone works with my computer...
I have a video! This one is from about a month ago, I think. Just a little after I got my new phone (which happens to take decent videos, so I actually regularly make videos of Rebecca now).
This one is particularly for her Cokum and Mooshum to show them how much she can enjoy her rocking chair. :-) I have some others that will appear on here at some point in the future, probably when I once again have nothing better to say, lol.
Our dining room now has a closet thanks to Justin's efforts on Monday and today, our living room has two book cases (FULL of books), and our piano is getting tuned tomorrow morning!! YAY!! Oh... and I still have to figure out where to put certain items of furniture... hmmmmmm... Oh well, the dining room is much tidier than it was for the last few months, and it will only continue to improve as I figure out where to put everything. The living room leaves a little to be desired at the moment because of all the rearranging we've been doing in there in the last few days, but that will be quickly remedied, and the kitchen shouldn't take too long either! It's so nice to finally have things mostly in place!!
Rebecca and I are going to go out for a walk on this lovely, yet slightly chilly afternoon, then make pancakes for supper and head out for choir practise... then home to bed. Oh... bed sure sounds nice.... :-)

SNOW!!!!!
I know, many of you are wishing you were rid of the snow by now. However, here, March came in with a bang... or "in like a lion" if you prefer! This is the first "real" snow I've seen since about 15 months ago when I left Canada for Virginia. Granted, it's only like two inches, but Justin and I really didn't think the prediction of snow was actually going to happen at all! When we went to bed last night, it was pouring rain, and we woke up to this:
That patch of black is the very icy road. Justin called in saying that he didn't feel it was safe to make the drive to work today, so he's home building me a closet this morning/afternoon.
My daffodil! Well... it hasn't flowered yet, but it will... eventually. I don't imagine the snow will help it bloom any faster though!
More of my daffodils! None of them have put out flower buds yet though. There are little hyacinth and crocus stems poking themselves out of the snow as well.
*sigh* My broccoli. I don't know if it is going to be any good after this. Just when it was almost big enough to pick and eat too... :-(
Rebecca got her first snow experience! Complete with being dumped out of her sled (oops!). She recovered nicely, as soon as the snow was off her face though... And, we didn't go that fast, at least when we were going in circles, after that.

So... what do you think of her $72 sled? Actually, it's just the box that contained $72 worth of stuff, but anyway... it worked pretty well, we thought!

And we had rosy cheeks when we got home!
And, that's our morning in the snow... oh, and it's still snowing! I think perhaps the weather of the north has come south for a day!!
Anyway, other than that... I've been knitting for the church prayer shawl ministry, singing in the choir, looking after Rebecca, and sewing a dress for our niece. It was Amelia's birthday this past Thursday, and we gave her a pink dress with butterflies on it... and she LOVES it. She put it on right away, and decided she was going to wear it to school today... though I have a feeling that's not happening, as it is a snow day! Who knows, perhaps she is wearing it at home, or saving it for tomorrow or Wednesday (not sure when schools will go back after this!)

Rebecca got kisses from Cinders. We try to prevent this (particularly happening on the face), but sometimes it just doesn't work, as you can see here. It's one thing to get foot kisses, another to get face kisses from a dog...
Okay, so we chased the doggy away. Now she's watching everything behind me... which included Cinders going nutty behind me...
There, focusing on the important thing in life!
Doesn't she look impressed with Mummy?? LOL...

Pretty toys... apparently they were much more interesting than the dangling toys for that period of time.
Yummy! Everything is going into her mouth lately. She's also wearing a bib most of the time due to the amount of drool coming out of her mouth... teething??
This is what happens when she keeps turning her head in her car seat while wearing her bonnet... she fell asleep this way which is why I manage to get a decent picture of her like this, because normally she fusses about it if she's awake.
The latest thing is to reaaaalllly study anything sparkly/shiny. This can really got her attention for a while!
Still studying the can. Think she could be a Pepsi advertisement?? :-) Definitely a picture for Mooshum (my dad) though! He loves this stuff. Probably mostly lives on it, lol.
