Snowy Days

We have had a number of snowfalls this year, but only a couple have stuck around long enough to really amount to anything. It has certainly been a chilly winter though! We are all looking forward to the warm weather actually staying, as we keep fluctuating up into the 60s and back down into the 30s or even lower. Brr. It wouldn't be so bad if it would just stay cold, but the ups and downs are not fun at all!

2.5 months old

 The kids had a blast in the snow that did stick around long enough to really do anything with. Rebecca insists she wants to go visit Cokum and Mooshum in the winter sometime. Perhaps someday I will be brave enough to drive up there during storm season, but I'm not really sure I want to do that with little people! It's hard to plan around winter storms when it comes to travelling.

Rebecca learned how to make snow angels this year. Elias is not yet quite coordinated enough to make them, to his frustration, but Rebecca made quite a few.

Justin built a snowman with them. It is just slightly shorter than he is, so I guess probably about 5 ft tall. Unfortunately it got knocked down within a few hours of being built, but it was fun while it lasted. I was impressed there was still snow on the ground when the snowman had been built. Elias actually recently brought me some pecans in their shells asking if they were there because the snowman was hiding. We had used pecans as the buttons for the snowman.

3.5 months

Rebecca has been begging me to teach her to knit, so I sat down with her this winter to teach her to do so. She still needs a refresher every time she starts to knit again, but once she gets going again, she actually does pretty well! She says she wants to make a scarf for Esther. We'll see. She keeps getting bored and leaving it behind.

It SNOWED!

It used to be quite unusual to get snow of this quantity here, but we've decided that seeing as the amount seems to increase every year, and we are three years running now, we'll be purchasing snow suits for both children for next winter! Of course that means that it won't snow at all, right?

We were expecting about 3-6 inches of snow, according to the weather warning by the end, but while it was saying we should see no more than 6 inches in the HIGH accumulation areas (which we are not) we were able to look outside and see nearly two feet of snow. We had a blast, and it lasted nearly a week!

Elias isn't so sure he likes snow falling on his face, but he did enjoy playing with it once he looked down instead of up!

He received the snowsuit from (Great)Granny for Christmas... right in time, because this snow started falling Christmas Evening, and we woke to three inches on Boxing Day... and had two feet on the ground by 5pm that evening!

And, he was just sitting there, so I took some pictures this past week, hehe! Always nice to have the opportunity to take some pictures without Rebecca's (lack of) help in this area!

Snow... from January!

I know, I haven't posted many pictures at all in the last couple of months. Actually, I guess I haven't posted much at all, let alone pictures! So... here are some pictures to make up for it. :) We got a pretty decent snow at the end of January, ending up with about a foot of snow in our yard! Justin got a day off work out of it. He probably should have had two, but he didn't realize how bad the roads were when he left home, so he only got one.

Rebecca really wasn't sure what to think about it at first, and then after falling down and accidentally getting a face full of snow, she wasn't too pleased with the idea of walking through the stuff anymore.


She thought it was funny to see Mummy throwing handfuls of snow in the air.



Daddy tried to encourage her to walk through the snow... he wasn't overly successful!


Trying to build a snowman. It wasn't very successful until a week or so later when we got a really nice wet snow, and Rebecca and I built a Rebecca-sized snowman. :)

SNOW!!!!!

I know, many of you are wishing you were rid of the snow by now. However, here, March came in with a bang... or "in like a lion" if you prefer! This is the first "real" snow I've seen since about 15 months ago when I left Canada for Virginia. Granted, it's only like two inches, but Justin and I really didn't think the prediction of snow was actually going to happen at all! When we went to bed last night, it was pouring rain, and we woke up to this:

That patch of black is the very icy road. Justin called in saying that he didn't feel it was safe to make the drive to work today, so he's home building me a closet this morning/afternoon.

My daffodil! Well... it hasn't flowered yet, but it will... eventually. I don't imagine the snow will help it bloom any faster though!

More of my daffodils! None of them have put out flower buds yet though. There are little hyacinth and crocus stems poking themselves out of the snow as well.

*sigh* My broccoli. I don't know if it is going to be any good after this. Just when it was almost big enough to pick and eat too... :-(

Rebecca got her first snow experience! Complete with being dumped out of her sled (oops!). She recovered nicely, as soon as the snow was off her face though... And, we didn't go that fast, at least when we were going in circles, after that.

So... what do you think of her $72 sled? Actually, it's just the box that contained $72 worth of stuff, but anyway... it worked pretty well, we thought!

And, that's our morning in the snow... oh, and it's still snowing! I think perhaps the weather of the north has come south for a day!!

Anyway, other than that... I've been knitting for the church prayer shawl ministry, singing in the choir, looking after Rebecca, and sewing a dress for our niece. It was Amelia's birthday this past Thursday, and we gave her a pink dress with butterflies on it... and she LOVES it. She put it on right away, and decided she was going to wear it to school today... though I have a feeling that's not happening, as it is a snow day! Who knows, perhaps she is wearing it at home, or saving it for tomorrow or Wednesday (not sure when schools will go back after this!)

Though it is generally quite a bit warmer here than in Canada, we did have a "pleasant" surprise yesterday! We got snow! It didn't stay on the ground very long (nor did it get very thick) but it did snow nonetheless, and I have pictures to prove that it snowed.





And, this little puppy lives in one of the studio apartments in our plaza. Her name is Abby, and she's three months old... and a lot of fun to watch! She likes to dig up rocks to chew on (weird) and to chase the leaves blowing across the court yard.
