So, as my last written post would imply, things have been busy this past month! We spent much of our day outdoors, Amelia and Jacob riding their bikes, and Rebecca playing in the grass. We even stayed up late so we could do things like catch lighting bugs!
On the 14th we took everyone to the Canon Kids Carnival that Justin's work ran for their employees families, and everyone had a great time! I have a bunch of pictures of that, all ready to put up, just have to take the time to actually upload them. Rebecca even got a little toy out of going, since really she pretty much was too little to do any of the other stuff, though she did manage to participate (and win) in the little rubber duck fishing thing. She loves to pick up anything that is floating in the water!
For Father's Day weekend we went up to historic Jamestown, again I have many, many, many pictures of this... but those are definitely NOT ready to put up! Historic Jamestown is where the actual first settlement was. Unfortunately the Jamestown Settlement was not free along with everything else that WAS free that day, so we didn't get to go into the "authentic" village, but it was interesting to spend the day there anyway. We took the ferry across the water and took a slightly round-about way home, by driving through the country a little bit, and all in all had a very pleasant time!
Rebecca has made many developments in the past few weeks, the biggest, I guess, being her two teeth. They're both on the bottom, but we're pretty sure she's teething again, so we suspect top teeth are not far behind. She's crawling on her hands and knees, self feeding (sometimes feeding on things she shouldn't be, like paper!!), and standing easily... to the point that she even forgets sometimes to hold on, and remains standing for a few seconds! She addresses Justin and me by our "names" (Mum, and 'Dada'), and calls Cinders "Daw". Funny, seeing as we rarely call Cinders 'dog', lol. She also gets a kick out of reading the animal noises book we now have, courtesy of her grandmother here, because she knows what a sheep says, and there's a sheep in the book!
I've been letting Rebecca play with a wooden spoon and some bowls the past couple of days, and she just loves to bang them! She will occupy herself for about 1/2 an hour banging away on the bowls. It's fun to watch her! She even sometimes stops, puts down her spoon, and claps her hands instead. Oh, that's right... clapping is a new thing this month as well! She loves to clap her hands! She'll clap a few times, and then get a big grin on her face and act "bashful" as I like to say... some would say she "plays shy". It's very cute!
We went to the beach on Saturday evening, and we found a little water turtle! It's an Eastern Mud Turtle, from what I can find (it's the only one found in VA that matches the description even a little), and so full grown at a mere 4-5 inches long! We picked up some turtle food for it, and it seems to like the fact it doesn't have to chase live food around the water anymore! It is quite friendly, though I have to say, whoever thinks a turtle is slow, never met this one! It can go about 20 feet in less than 30 seconds! Thankfully it also ducks inside its shell as soon as a shadow crosses it, so I am able to catch it again!! Now all we have to do is find a container that is shallow, but big enough for the little guy.

Many, many, many, many pictures...
so many, that I don't think I'll put them all in one post! However, here are a whole bunch of pictures from the last while.
Rebecca is constantly babbling now. It is actually rare to have her in a good mood and not hear her "talking" (or shrieking in glee as the case may be!).
Rebecca fell asleep on me... it was and still is about the only way we can get her to go to sleep lately (on top of one of us).
This is her snuffly noise face. It's quite cute, and I'm sure I have it on video somewhere, but I'm not sure where. I'll have to go through all my little clips sometime!
Rebecca likes to play with her hat, and it rarely stays on her head lately!
Rebecca and I take a walk every day, if we can, and I brought my camera along at the beginning of June, so here are a few interesting pictures.
This first one is of a chestnut (we think) flower.
This one is of the fly attracted to the flowers...
A mimosa tree, in bloom! I think they are quite pretty, and boy do they smell good when they're flowering!
And, often times, Rebecca falls asleep before we get back now! She didn't used to... either she's bored with our "normal route" or the movement finally has that effect!
Rebecca has started crawling on her hands and knees! Though this picture doesn't actually show it. She keeps sitting or laying down every time I think I MIGHT get a picture of her on hands and knees!

If you guessed that she has a tooth, you'd be right! TWICE! And, we think she is teething again. Through the day she is a pretty cheerful teether, but through the night she is miserable. Even with Tylenol or Motrin she is nursing constantly through the night in order to keep her quiet and let me get a few hours of sleep. She's pretty happy once the teeth come through though!
We actually hadn't realized she had two teeth until Jacob came up to me and told me that she had two (because he'd FELT the second?!), and I told him that no, she only has one, but she should be getting more soon... and then I looked later, and guess what?! She had a second tooth. I had to apologize to my nephew, LOL!
SO... once you have teeth, the next step is to learn to eat solid foods, right? So here's Rebecca experimenting with about a tablespoon of cooked rice.
Here is the in progress, and finished product of our take on toddler bunk beds! (Rebecca is in the picture for a size reference... she's about 25 inches tall.)
Beds completely made and ready for Amelia and Jacob. We'd planned for Amelia to be on top, and Jake to be on bottom, but they decided differently. It's going to be OUR way next time, because Jake on top is not so great an idea (he likes to hang half way off it, or jump from the top to the bottom, or anything else that strikes his fancy, LOL).

I've fallen behind!
Okay, so I had every intention of posting. Not just this last Friday, but the one before that as well! We've been quite busy, first with preparing for Amelia and Jacob to come and stay with us, and then with them staying with us! It is quite busy with two children and a baby around... but it's nice to have two big kids to help out! They're GREAT when it comes to things needing to be picked up, or my needing Rebecca to be entertained for a few minutes, plus they just LOVE spending time at our house, so I guess we're all better for it. Anyway, I have a whole lot of pictures, which I'm not sure when I'll get up here.... I'm starting to think it might take the rest of the month!
Amelia and Jacob have been having a great time playing with the other children on our street, and meeting all the people I associate with on a regular basis. I took them to the church knitting group on Tuesday, and they just loved it! The knitters thought it was wonderful that I was teaching little ones their ages to knit, and of course, Jacob had a captive audience of ten grandmotherly type ladies, most of whom have granddaughters, not grandsons... so they just loved watching him with his antics as well!
We put a kiddie pool in our back yard, partly for Rebecca, but largely for Amelia and Jacob, because we knew they love to be able to splash around, and being "stuck at home" for so long, we figured they might like something to *do* at home. We're all enjoying the pool a lot! Justin has even got in on the fun once! Rebecca isn't so much a fan, I think mostly because the two big kids like to splash, and she just wants to float without getting splashed! I can't say that I blame her, because I don't particularly like being too close when they're in the pool either!
We've been going to the library on Mondays, and I signed the kids up for the library reading program this summer this past Monday... they've already read 9-10 books each just since Monday afternoon! Of course, Jake's are all read TO him, but most of Amelia's have been ones she read to herself, or went back and read again a half dozen times later on. Denise gave Rebecca a set of "Little People" farm books, they're board books in a little case that do animal names, sounds, colours, shapes, etc. She just loves listening to any of them! Of course, she generally likes listening to any book we'll read to her, lol. I'm just waiting for her to figure out how to carry a book to us to have it read to her, because she is already interested in looking at the books herself, but hasn't quite figured out how to open them and "read" on her own.
Something I've been doing with both older children every day is a little "school work" (Jake knows his is, Amelia hasn't figured out that hers is yet...). We're continuing with Jacob's old Kindergarten materials, and Amelia has a gr. 2 "all in one" workbook. However, I've also been pulling out pages from her old gr. 1 math book, because we're discovering her math skills are very sadly lacking! Things she supposedly "knows how to do" because she did them at school this year, she doesn't even grasp the concept, let alone know how to do it, so we're working on it again. She objected to "first grade work" until I said the 1 on the cover was simply telling us it was LEVEL 1. LOL. Jacob is sounding out short vowel words, marking the vowels, and now spelling! He'll be starting long vowel words in about 20 days... so I guess before school starts again.
We've started Rebecca on some solids, she really likes apples, pears, sweet potato, and she's getting used to rice. She loves to munch on (raw) carrots or celery, and I tried her on apricots, but she started spitting up a lot and other stuff you probably don't want to know about, so we backed off on that one. We'll try that one again maybe in a few months. Right now I'm working on making her some more applesauce, because she just loves the stuff! And... she's now figured out how to climb out of her bassinet... to the point of having just fallen out about a minute ago! (YIKES!! good thing it's only 2ft off the floor!!) So, now we have to find a different solution for her sleeping in our very little room, because I just can NOT imagine putting her down in the bassinet anymore. :-(
